Bangladesh is often introduced to the world through Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar and the Sundarbans, but the true essence of the nation lies far beyond these familiar hubs. The Colors of Bangladesh 15-Day Photography Expedition is an immersive documentary photography journey designed to capture the vibrant textures, human stories, and unique visual landscapes of the country.
From the bustling, rickshaw-filled lanes and historical architecture of Old Dhaka to the endless rolling green tea gardens of Sreemangal, the scenic waterways of Lalakhal, and the dramatic coastal shorelines and salt-producing fields of Cox’s Bazar and Maheshkhali, this expedition offers an unmatched variety of photographic environments.
Rather than standard sightseeing, our focus is entirely on authentic cultural immersion and storytelling. You will engage directly with hardworking local communities, tea pluckers, fishermen, boat builders, and rural families, capturing genuine expressions and daily routines. By the end of this comprehensive workshop with Photo Tour Bangla, you will return home with a powerful, diverse portfolio reflecting the true colors and living spirit of Bangladesh.
Hidden Bangladesh: Ethnic Communities & Indigenous Life Photography Tour is a 7-Day documentary photography journey designed to explore this less-seen side of the country.
The tour takes photographers from Madhupur in Tangail to the tea gardens of Sreemangal, the Khasi settlements of Lawachara, the ethnic communities of Dinajpur, and finally Lama in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, while also visiting a Telugu settlement in Dhaka.
Rather than simply visiting ethnic villages as tourists, the tour is designed around human stories, environmental portraits, traditional clothing, homes, occupations, cultural practices, and everyday community life with Photo Tour Bangla.
This is one of the most intimate days of the expedition.
We visit a rural village and take part in a traditional pond-fishing experience, photographing local people as they catch fish.
After the fishing activity, we return to a local rural home for a traditional lunch featuring freshly prepared fish and other Bengali dishes.
The afternoon provides time to explore the village, photograph homes, ponds, agricultural fields and everyday rural life.
In the evening, we gather for a traditional Baul music session, creating an opportunity to photograph musicians and performers in an intimate village environment.
Baul songs are recognised by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Photography Focus: Village life, fishing, food culture, portraits, rural landscapes and Baul music.
Overnight: Northern Bangladesh
We travel towards Kanaighat to explore the rural riverside market environment.
The area offers an opportunity to photograph local farmers and traders bringing fresh agricultural products to market, often creating colourful scenes around wooden boats and the riverbank.
The Surma River-side market environment has recently been documented as a vibrant seasonal agricultural trading space where vegetables are displayed and traded around boats.
Photography Focus: Floating/riverside market, vegetables, farmers, traders, boats and rural commerce.
Overnight: Sylhet
We leave Dhaka and travel towards Sreemangal, entering the green landscapes of Moulvibazar. After arrival and check-in, we begin exploring the surrounding tea-growing landscape. Sreemangal’s tea estates, rolling green terrain, and surrounding rural environment make it one of Bangladesh’s strongest locations for landscape photography.
We spend the full day exploring the diverse photographic locations around Sreemangal. This includes early morning shoots in the tea gardens when mist often lingers over the hills, visits to rubber gardens, and exploring local tribal villages to capture environmental portraits. We also spend time interacting with tea-plucking communities in their daily working environment.
Capturing the raw human stories, vibrant cultural festivals, and breathtaking heritage landscapes of Bangladesh through immersive documentary photography expeditions.
