Discover Bangladesh through its people, rivers, industries, fishing communities, rural landscapes and everyday life. The Bangladesh Photo Expedition is a 12-day photography journey designed to explore some of the country’s most visually compelling environments, from the busy streets and riverside communities of Dhaka to the agricultural landscapes of Brahmanbaria, the industrial and maritime world of Chattogram, and the fishing communities and coastal landscapes around Chakaria and Cox’s Bazar. This is not simply a sightseeing tour, but an immersive opportunity to photograph working Bangladesh and build a diverse visual story.
Throughout the journey, participants focus heavily on documentary-style photography, engaging directly with local communities, hardworking individuals, and authentic everyday life. Early morning shoots along active river ports, traditional brick fields, dynamic fish markets, and scenic coastal shorelines provide endless, unique opportunities to capture raw moments, genuine human expressions, and striking visual contrasts. By the end of this comprehensive workshop, photographers return home with a compelling, rich collection of images that truly reflect the living traditions, daily human struggles, resilience, and authentic spirit of contemporary Bangladesh.
Arrive in Dhaka, where our local representative will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After some time to settle in, we begin our first photographic exploration in Old Dhaka. This historic part of the capital offers an immediate introduction to the extraordinary density, colour and energy of Bangladesh. We explore the streets, traditional markets, rickshaw-filled lanes, local businesses and historic neighbourhoods while photographing everyday life.
We begin the day around the Buriganga River, one of the most active riverside environments in Dhaka. Small country boats continuously move across the river while passengers, traders and workers use the waterfront for transportation and commerce. Later, we explore a traditional Dhaka shipyard and boat-building area, photographing workers involved in construction, repair and maintenance of vessels. The combination of river life and industrial activity makes this a particularly diverse photography day.
Today we explore traditional brick factories around Dhaka, focusing on the people and processes behind brick production. We photograph the preparation of raw materials, handmade brick production, drying yards, stacking and transportation. The red colour of the bricks, dusty atmosphere, repetitive patterns and physically demanding work provide numerous opportunities for documentary and environmental photography.
Today we move into another important part of Bangladesh’s working landscape—the coal-loading and unloading environment. River transport plays an important role in moving heavy materials, and the riverside becomes a workplace where labourers handle cargo throughout the day. We concentrate on the human side of this environment, photographing workers, boats, cargo, movement and the surrounding river landscape.
