Bishwa Ijtema Photo Tour and Gallery

Join Us for 7 Days of Photography in Bangladesh

Experience the spirit of devotion, unity, and faith at the world’s largest Islamic gathering. Bishwa Ijtema (World Muslim Congress) has been held in Bangladesh in January every year since 1942. More than five million pilgrims throng the banks of the Turag River on the outskirts of Dhaka in Tongi for three days of heightened spirituality, mass prayers, and iconic train departure scenes.

Bishwa Ijtema is a monumental spiritual phenomenon, bringing millions of devoted souls together on the serene banks of the Turag River. This peaceful congregation transcends geographical boundaries, standing as a global symbol of Islamic unity, humility, and collective prayer. For documentary photographers and visual storytellers, it offers an unmatched canvas of profound human emotion and breathtaking imagery.

During the three-day event, the expansive tent city becomes a vibrant epicenter of faith. Millions camp side by side, participating in Quranic recitations, spiritual discourses, and communal meals. The atmosphere radiates an extraordinary sense of brotherhood, providing image-makers with intimate portraits of devotion and resilience.

The visual landscape of the gathering is legendary. As the event culminates in the Akheri Munajat (final supplication), millions raise their hands in unison, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle. Furthermore, the transit points—featuring iconic scenes of trains departing from Dhaka with pilgrims covering the roofs and compartments—deliver some of the most dynamic street and documentary photography opportunities in the world.

Participating in this photographic journey allows you to document one of humanity’s largest peaceful assemblies up close. Guided by seasoned local experts, you will navigate the festival safely, capturing authentic moments that bridge urban life and profound spiritual grace. Join us to preserve the timeless stories and extraordinary scale of the Bishwa Ijtema through your lens.
